The Cabernets, a breath of Bordeaux in the heart of the Alps

16 Cabernet_MVV_Cépages_Leytron_Hofer_0548These made the reputation of Bordeaux wines; today they are used in Valais in some blends. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are mentioned for the first time in Valais under the generic name of Bordeaux, in 1862.

These plants were brought into canton Vaud in 1837 from Savoie or directly from the city of Bordeaux. It appears that they were then brought to Valais.
