About the collection
The collection of the Wine Museum includes more than 4,000 objects, which bear witness to the past and present activities related to vine and wine. From tools used for vine work to bottles and containers, wooden presses, and objects related to winemaking, the collection covers all areas of activities associated with vine and wine.
The Wine Museum’s acquisition policy focuses on gathering significant objects, documents, and other exhibits:
- From the ancient and contemporary history of vine and wine in Valais, including items from other wine regions for comparison and context
- From the general history of viticulture to put the collection into perspective
- From the cultural history of wine (artistic production and ethnographic objects)
Collection Concept
The collection concept is a working tool that defines the scope of the museum’s collections and sets the conditions for acquiring new pieces.
